Guess my top trading goal each year? It wasn’t PNL. It was simply 200 days of getting 1% better. And I would track them by counting them down each day on a post-it note. Why was this so simple yet so effective?
It created a tangible countdown right on my desk in front of me that I got to physically mark off after each day. This was my “habit celebration ritual,” ala Stanford’s BJ Fogg.
It also left me leeway for sick days, vacay, or life. It pushed me just enough without burning me out.
It helped me focus on my Bobblehead. My whole year was solely measured by if I hit 200+ days. Internalizing that helped me easily move past my mistakes or bad losses and focus on the only thing that matters – getting better each day. I won Top Trader every year doing this.
